Workshops and Seminars

We have each attended many workshops and seminars over the last five years. Here are some of our favorites!

Jerry Ghionis

As well as being an exceptional wedding photographer, Jerry is one of the most respected teachers in the industry, and his workshops cover posing, lighting, album design and sales, branding and marketing (amongst other things!) We both loved the hands-on posing and lighting segments in particular. You can read about Leah’s experience here, and Kate’s here.

Foundation Worshop

Billed as “the toughest photojournalism workshop for wedding photographers”, the Foundation Workshop is an intense experience best suited to photographers who already feel confident with the basics of photography, and are ready to push themselves to the next level. You can read about Kate’s emotional and hugely satisfying experience here.

Mystic Seminars

In its eighth year, Mystic Seminars is one of our favorite winter conferences to attend. The number of attendees grows each year but it’s still much more manageable than say WPPI and there’s a great sense of community. Walter works incredibly hard to provide nationally renowned and respected speakers with useful and relevant content, not to mention the best food you will ever eat at a photography seminar.

Cliff Mautner’s Lighting and Skillset Bootcamp

Cliff is considered by many to be a true master of light.  His workshop focuses on using natural light, available light, and creative lighting techniques to transform your photography.  Kate took his WPPI Plus Class several years ago and felt that it truly revolutionized the way she saw and used light.

One Light

Back in 2008/2009 Leah wanted to incorporate off-camera lighting into her reception images, and she spent thousands of dollars on classes, seminars and books, but somehow none of it “clicked”. She then bought the OneLight DVD by Zack Arias and it was like a lightbulb went on (pun intended). This DVD is crazy informative, actually entertaining, and really easy to understand. An awesome resource for those struggling with lighting concepts, especially flash.

Jared Platt

Jared’s workshop focuses on using Lightroom to its full potential and creating an incredibly efficient post-shoot workflow.  Jared is an engaging speaker, and his workshop is a great value.  Even those familiar with Lightroom can pick up many tips that will speed up their workflow and make post-production less of a, well, production!

Inspire Photo Seminars

Inspire is a New-England retreat-style conference for professional wedding and portrait photographers. It’s perfect for photographers in their first year or two of business as well as those looking to network with local photographers. All of the sessions are led by local professionals who have active photography businesses. Leah presented to a full conference room at Inspire 2012 on Profitable Wedding Photography, you can read more about her talk here
